How to Pack Under 7kg: The Minimalist Pilgrim's Guide

    Ana López1/20/20247 min read

The 7kg base weight rule exists for good reason - lighter packs mean happier knees and more energy for what matters.

    The Big Three

Your pack, sleeping system, and rain gear account for 60% of your weight. Invest in ultralight versions of these items.

    Clothing: The 2-3 Rule

2-3 of everything, quick-dry materials only. You'll wash daily. Merino wool is worth the investment.

    Cut Ruthlessly

Lay out everything you think you need, then remove half. You don't need a book (use your phone), multiple outfits, or 'just in case' items.

    Weigh Everything

Use a kitchen scale. Those 50g items add up quickly. If something weighs more than 200g, question whether you really need it.

    Multi-Use Items

Your rain jacket is your wind layer. Your buff is your hat, scarf, and pillow cover. Think creatively.

    Ship Ahead or Buy There

Guidebooks, extra layers for cold sections - ship them to pick-up points or buy locally and donate after use.
