What to Eat on the Camino
The Camino is a food pilgrimage too. Here's what to order, where, and when.
The pilgrim menu (menú del peregrino)
€10–15. Three courses + bread + wine. Standard offering in every Camino town. Order whatever the locals are eating.
Regional must-tries
- Navarra: Pintxos in Pamplona. Standing-up bar snacks, €2–4 each.
- La Rioja: Red wine, obviously. Plus chuletillas (grilled lamb chops).
- Castile: Cocido (chickpea stew), morcilla (blood sausage).
- Galicia: Pulpo a la gallega (octopus), Tarta de Santiago (almond cake), Albariño wine.
Breakfast strategy
Most albergues serve nothing. Start walking, stop at the first café (5–8 km in) for tortilla, café con leche, and orange juice. €5.
