Camino Packing by Season
Same base kit, different layers and sleeping bag.
Spring
March - May · 8°C - 20°C
Spring on the Camino brings wildflowers, moderate temperatures, and unpredictable weather. Fewer crowds than summer but expect some rain, especially early in the season. The landscape is lush and green, and the days are getting longer.
Summer
June - August · 15°C - 35°C
Peak pilgrimage season with the best weather but also the most crowds. Hot days on the meseta can reach 35°C+ requiring early starts. Albergues fill quickly, especially on the Francés. July and August see the highest pilgrim numbers.
Fall / Autumn
September - November · 5°C - 22°C
Many pilgrims' favorite season. Comfortable walking temperatures, stunning fall colors, grape harvest season in Rioja, and thinner crowds. Late October onwards brings cooler weather and shorter days, with some smaller albergues closing for winter.
